EVENT RESCHEDULED

Star Party Featuring Perseid Meteor Shower – New Date: Saturday, August 10th, 2024, Rain or Shine Time: 7:00 – 11:30 PM Location: The Stables at Knox Park. (Use 345 Buffalo Rd. Entrance)
Just because the Great North American 2024 Solar Eclipse is over doesn’t mean there aren’t other amazing sights to see in the heavens above us. This summer The Friends of Knox Farm State Park and The Buffalo Astronomical Association (BAA) are co-hosting a Star Party featuring the Perseid Meteor Shower. The Perseids are typically the best meteor shower seen in the Northern Hemisphere for the entire year. Astronomers from the BAA will be setting up their telescopes outside the Stables to enable attendees to view a variety of heavenly bodies, including the sun (with the proper filters), crescent moon, planets, stars and star clusters. Laser guided sky tours of stars, planets and constellations will be given which will include information on the legends the indigenous peoples of North America created to explain what they were witnessing in the night sky. Astronomy related presentations and activities will be setup in the Stables and the BAA astronomers will be happy to answer any questions you may have about all things astronomy related, so even if the weather isn’t ideal for viewing it is sure to make for an entertaining, educational and fun evening. There is no cost to attend the event and free parking is available adjacent to the Stables.
