For more than sixty years, a friendly place for Western New Yorkers who love the night sky and all things astronomical

The Buffalo Astronomical Association is an organization composed of people from all walks of life who share in a common love for the wonders of the universe. Our goal is the preservation of astronomy at the amateur level and to that end we pledge our talents and resources.

Important Note!!

Due to construction, our normal meeting room in the Science Building at Buffalo State College will not be available during the fall semester. Beginning September 2009, our meetings will be held in Classroom Building C122 located just to the north of the Science Building. Follow directions (#35) on the Buffalo State College map located here or here     Our old location was in building 15 - new is building 35.

Member interests within our organization vary tremendously. We have telescope designers, telescope makers and telescope users. Members observe visually and image the night sky using a variety of cameras including traditional film cameras, webcams, video cameras, DSLRs and cooled CCD cameras. "Pretty pictures" are not your cup of tea? How about getting involved in scientific endeavors such as hunting for transitory astronomical events such as gamma ray bursts, supernovae or lunar occultations? We even have "armchair" astronomers who prefer the study of astronomical theory to observation. We have experts and beginners of all ages, both male and female, working together to further our understanding of the universe around us. Members share experience and good fellowship through many and varied activities, including monthly club meetings with varied and interesting guest speakers as well as bi-weekly "star  parties" or observing sessions at our observatories. For more information about member benefits and becoming a member of the BAA please click here or on the membership link in the left column above.

Please join us on Friday, February 10th at 7:30 pm for our February  General Meeting. Our guest speaker will be Dr Tracy Gregg (Dr G for short) who will be presenting "Shifting Paradigms on Mars: New Ideas for an Old Planet."
